Gray to brownish-gray when young, with yellowish or ochre tints in age, often scaly at maturity.

Even.

Adnate.
Pores and Pore Surface
Whitish to gray-brown at maturyty, immutale or staining brownish when bruised. Circular pores, 1-3 per mm.
Stalk
Equal to tapered downward. Whitish, becoming yellow to orangish yellow as it ages, sometimes with reddish or dark brown tints..
Stalk Feature
Prominently reticulate grayish when young, developping orange-yellow tones as it matures, sometimes with reddish or dark brown tints.
Flesh
Whitish, immutable, becoming yellow in the stem with maturity, sometimes staining dingy red or brown when cut.
Chemical reactions
FLESH: strong reaction with KOH, NaOH and NH4OH; yellowing with phenol and formalin; nothing with FeSO4. CAP-STIPE: strong or weak reaction with the six reagents used.
Comments 
Can be confused with the Ornate-stalked Bolete.
