Under conifers, more rarely under birches and hardwoods.
Cap
Bare, humped, brown to orange-brown, darker in the center.
Margin
Longly lined.
Gills
Crowdy, white to creamy, few short gills.
Stalk
Hollow, attenuated towards the apex, white, often tinged with orange-brown.
Stalk Feature
The stipe emerges from a white, bag-shaped volva tinged with rusty brown. Often the interior of the volva is a very pale rust color.
Flesh
White.
Chemical reactions
Strong reaction towards blackish brown with phenol on the flesh, cap and stipe. No reaction with other chemicals.
Comments 
It is one of the rare amanita to occasionally fruit on rotten strains.
