Under poplars, Tamarack, White Pine and less frequently with oaks.
Cap
Mostly yellow-ochre in colour. Cap and stalk decorate with white to greyish gluten patches.
Margin
Even, inrolled at first with gluten remainings.
Tubes
Short, adnate.
Pores and Pore Surface
Yellow to orange at first, ochre in age, immutable. Pores angular., very irrégular, 1-2 per mm.
Stalk
Nearly equal, yellow or yellowish.
Stalk Feature
Decorate with white to greyish gluten patches at first and glandular dots yellow when young, but darker in age.
Flesh
Brown, immutable but often reddening slightly when cut.
Basal Mycelium
Chemical reactions
Flesh: dark brown with KOH, NaOH, NH4OH and phenol; pale brown with FeSO4 and formalin. Cap and stipe: towards brown with KOH, NaOH, FeSO4, NH4OH and phenol; no reaction with formalin. Tubes: towards brown with KOH, NaOH and FeSO4; to orange and brown with NH4OH; to white with phenol and no change with formalin.
