Cap
Naked or adorned with gray to black velar flakes, greyish brown to blackish surface, often paler at the margin
Margin
Lined.
Gills
Whitish near the stipe, greyish towards the margin, crowdy with many truncated short gills.
Stalk
Equal, whitish, rarely mottled gray-brown. The stipe is sometimes mottled with fine fibrils at maturity and adorned at the base with a gray strip.
Flesh
Whitish.
Chemical reactions
A strong reaction in the presence of phenol; the flesh, the cap and the stipe turn purplish brown. Weak reaction towards beige on the stipe with KOH and NaOH.
