Habitat
Under hardwoods and in mixed forests. This name possibly groups together ten species or subspecies.
Cap
Humped, pale gray to gray-black, to gray-brown, darker in the center, often without velar remains. Velar remains ranging from white to dark grey.
Margin
Longly lined.
Gills
White to greyish, crowded.
Stalk
White or greyish, finely flocculent then smooth, hollow, fragile.
Stalk Feature
The stipe emerges from a membranous volva in the shape of a bag or a glove finger. In some varieties the volva is completely white, in others it is dark gray. Rarely the volva turns reddish brown.
Flesh
White.
Chemical reactions
Don’t react to any chemical except phenol which turns all parts of the fruitbodies brown. There is also a beige coloring with KOH on the cap and the stipe.
Comments 
There are more than ten species grouped together under the name vaginata, the name Amanita fuscozonata being reserved for the species with the darkest cap.
