There are no toxic chanterelles, but there are chanterelles which can cause gastric problems, particularly in Turbinellus floccosus and Turbinellus kauffmanii. You also need to be on the lookout for allergies; each time we consume a new mushroom, it should always be a small quantity to check the acceptability of this new food to our body. For people who are intolerant, you should also remember that some mushrooms contain gluten.

For a mushroom could be considered edible, we must:
- be sure of the identification
- know that several dozen or hundreds of people have eat it without showing short to medium-term health problems.
For a species whose edibility has not been confirmed by decades or centuries of eating, we must be very careful because, for some mushrooms, health problems only appear a few weeks after eating.
Chanterelles whose edibility remains unknown or doubtful are: Polyozellus atrolazulinus and Turbinellus kauffmanii.
