Habitat Area
Among mosses, under birches. Probably in all stands where the White Birch grow.
Cap
Whitish when young darkening in age to gray or tan and developimg greenish tinges.
Margin
With a narrow band of sterile tissue.
Tubes
Long, adnate.
Pores and Pore Surface
Grayish to dingy brown in age, mainly immutable or brownish when bruised; pores circular, 2-3 per mm.
Stalk
Egual, more or less long.
Stalk Feature
Scabers whitish when young, darker in age, occasionnally with greenish stains on the lower portion.
Flesh
White, immutable, often blue near the base of the stalk, sometimes reddening especially at the top of the stipe.
Basal Mycelium
White.
Chemical reactions
FLESH: to beige with KOH, NaOH and NH4OH; to gray with FeSO4; dark brownish with phenol; towards beige with formalin. CAP: towards brown with KOH and NaOH. TUBES: towards dark brown with KOH, NaOH, FeSO4 and NH4OH.
