Bois mort de feuillus, rarement de conifères: souches, bois mort au sol, racines.
Chapeau
Chapeau gris au début, rapidement brun presque uniforme, à noirâtre, plus ou moins déprimé au centre.
Marge du chapeau
Mince, souvent ondulée à lobée.
Tubes
Pores anguleux, visibles, 3 à 4 par mm, décurrents.
Surface des tubes
Décurrente, de couleur crème à paille.
Pied
Pied velouté et brun foncé, presque noir, parfois radicant.
Chair
Blanche à crème.
