Wooly velvet polypore

Infrequent
Habitat
On living coniferous wood, roots and base. Parasite. Annual.
Cap
Depressed in the centre, tomentose to finely felted, yellowish-brown, 'cinnamon to ferruginous brown. Sometimes ornamented with secondary caps.
Margin
Thin, acute, wavy, paler.
Tubes
Round to angular. Large, 2 to 4 per mm, thick walls at first becoming thin and lacerated with age.
Pores and Pore Surface
Pale buff, then grey and brown with age.
Stalk
Short, off-centre or lateral, often fused with others at the base.
Stalk Feature
Felted, rusty brown or colorless on the cap.
Flesh
Golden yellow to yellowish-brown, zoned, duplex: - soft and spongy upper part, - Firm and fibrous lower part.
