There are more than 110 species of boletus in eastern Canada, of which only 55% are edible; several species are poisonous, while others are very bitter or of unknown toxicity or edibility. The saying that «There is no risk of poisoning from consuming boletes» is entirely false. The safest group of boletes is the Leccinum group.
