Cap
Dark red to reddish brown, yellowing in age.
Margin
Even.
Tubes
Adnate, depressed near the stalk.
Pores and Pore Surface
Pore surface red to orange-red, staining blue when bruised, 1-3 per mm.
Stalk
Nearly equal or enlarged toward the base, concolor at the cap.
Stalk Feature
Reticulate at least in the upper part, concolorous with the cap, yellow near the apex.
Flesh
Total, rapid colour change to blue when cut.
Basal Mycelium
Chemical reactions
FLESH: towards the pinkish with KOH, NaOH and NH4OH; to gray with phenol and formalin; no reaction with FeSO4. CAP: towards black with all chemical reagents. STIPE: towards brown with KOH and NaOH; to black with FeSO4, NH4OH, phenol and formalin.
