Habitat
Conifer roots and stumps. Annual.
Cap
Hispid to warty, tomentose, brownish-grey to reddish-brown. Depressed in the center at maturity.
Margin
Straight, slightly wavy, concolor to the surface of the cap.
Tubes
Angular, very large, 1 to 2 per mm, thin-walled.
Pores and Pore Surface
Whitish, decurrent.
Stalk
Up to 10 cm tall and 4 cm in diameter, centered or lateral, tan to pale purple brown.
Stalk Feature
Glabrous to tomentose.
Flesh
Very bitter, whitish flavour.
Mycélium basal
Brown.
