Under hardwoods, especially oaks.
Violet or purple when young, fading to dull cinnamon or tan in age.
Adnate, depressed near the stalk.
Pores and Pore Surface
Pore surface whitish when young, pinkish to tan in age, immutable; pores circular, 1-2 per mm.
Nearly equal to enlarged downward, sub-bulbous.
Predominantly violet or purple, sometimes marbled with white, sometimes slightly reticulate at the apex.
