Pale coloring at first, turning brown later, surface often cracked at maturity revealing a white flesh in the cracks.

Pore surface yellow, staining blue when bruised; pores circular to angular, 1-3 per mm.
Stalk
Equal to tapered downward.
Stalk Feature
Whitish to yellowish, more often red in color, yellow at the apex, finely reticulated or not in the upper part.
Flesh
Whitish to yellowish, staining blue when cut and reddish-orange at the base.
Comments 
Very bitter, inedible fruitbodies.
