Mainly in the company of the White Pine, therefore not prevalent in the boreal forest.
Cap
Not viscous, covered with pink to dark red scales or patches.
Margin
Frequently appendiculate with whitish veil remnants.
Tubes
Short, adnate, sometimes slightly decurrent.
Pores and Pore Surface
Pore surface yellow, staining pale reddish or brownish when bruised; pores angular, 0.5-5 mm wide.
Stalk
Equal to enlarging toward the base.
Stalk Feature
Stipe covered with reddish fibrils or scales, lacking glandular dots, secondary veil present on young specimens leaving a small annulous on the stipe.
Chair
Whitish to brownish in the cap, yellowish to brownish in the stem, immutable.
