Cap
Finely tomentose at first. Often narrowly zoned and slightly furrowed concentrically. Rougher to warty with age. Amber brown at first, then blackening; paler in old specimens.
Margin
Thin, wavy, whitish then yellowish to brownish in growth.
Gills
Gills more or less close together, irregular and dividing in places.
Hymenium surface
Whitish at first, then pale brown with age.
Flesh
Dark brown, with a dense underside and a looser upper.
Signature chimique
Black with KOH on the flesh.
