Under poplars, mainly Large-toothed Aspen, and more rarely under birches.
Cap
Brown, occasionally brick-red, with fibrils forming downy patches or small scales in age.
Margin
Appendiculate with flaps of sterile tissue.
Tubes
Adnate,, long, bulging in age, depressed near the stalk.
Pores and Pore Surface
Pore surface whitish, becomming yellow and yellow-brown in age, immutable or slighty browning when bruised; pores circular, 1-3 per mm.
Stalk
Enlarging toward the base.
Stalk Feature
Whitish with mildly rough stalk, occasionnaly with greenish stains on the lower portion.
Flesh
Whitish, staining purple-gray when cut.
Chemical reactions
FLESH: very little reaction, except towards black with phenol. CAP: not obvious reactions. STIPE: towards beige with KOH and NaOH; no color change with other chemical reagents. TUBES: towards black or blackish with all chemical reagents.
