Cap
Cap reddish brown, more rarely brown to olive brown at maturity.
Margin
Even.
Tubes
Short, adnate.
Pores and Pore Surface
Pore surface yellow at first, later turning olive, blueing quickly when bruised; round to angular pores, 2 to 3 per mm.
Stalk
Nearly equal or enlarged downward.
Stalk Feature
Yellow on the upper portion, pinkish red to purplish red on the lower portion, reticulate overall or at least over the upper half.
Flesh
Pale yellow, staining blue mainly in the cap when cut.
Basal Mycelium
Dark red.
